Jewish New YorkJewish New York From the landing of the first Jewish immigrants to New Amsterdam in 1654, New York and the Jewish people have shared an inescapable bond. The history of the development of the "City that Never Sleeps" is replete with the stories, characters, and achievements of the Jewish People. Of the roughly 13 million Jewish people in the world today, almost a quarter of them call the New York Metropolitan area their home, and even more trace their heritage their. This four-week course will track the bond shared between the great metropolis and one of its great melting pot contributors. We will look to the history, the stories, the characters, the achievements, and links that have made New York the 2nd Jewish capital of the world.
