The Story of Our Sisterhood

Our journey began in 1974 with only 10 members. It was formed not only to help our congregation get started, but forthe women of the congregation to become part of a Jewish Women's Community. The duties of the Sisterhood were typical of women's duties three decades ago. We made sure that the Friday night Onegs were plentiful and something everyone would take pride in. At that time, women were generally not invited to take a position on the Temple Board. Sisterhood's main role was to raise money to help support the Temple.

Times have changed - we no longer are in the kitchen. With our beautiful new building, came a catered kitchen run by the Temple. In the last several years, we have gained a voice on the Temple Board. Each year, our Sisterhood President sits on the Board - her voice as ours - speaks, votes, and counts. We have since elected dozens of Sisterhood Presidents, all having left a legacy to treasure with one thing in common - a commitment to serve.

Another change is the emphasis we place on multigenerational participation. Activities such as the All Women's Seder, Women's Study Group, the Annual Chanukah Bazaar and special guest speakers are samples of our commitment to encourage multi-generational bonding. There are so many different programs and events offered throughout the year.

Something that hasn't changed over the years is the need to raise money. Our biggest ongoing fundraiser is the Sisterhood Judaic Gift Shop. Our gift shop features an extraordinary selection of Judaic items, perfect for special gift giving occasions as well as items for your home.  It is also the highlight of our Chanukah Bazaar.

We're also very proud of our Fund-4-Youth Program, which raises money throughout the year to provide financial assistance to our many youth groups. We're most proud of the Campership Scholarships that we are able to provide from these funds. Helping our congregation's children experience Jewish summer camp is a great joy.

Highlights of Sisterhood activities include: Wine & Cheese Tasting, Breast Cancer Awareness, Annual Chanukah Bazaar, Chai Life Celebration of Jewish Women Artists, Membership Luncheon, Donor Dinner, Crafts~n~Nosh, Mi Shebeirach Quilt, Sisterhood Cookbook, Rabbi's Book Review and Luncheon, All Women's Seder.

There is no greater gift than the gift of your time. We invite you to make a difference, become a member of Sisterhood! Click here to download a membership appliction.
