Join us for Friday Night Shabbat
Friday, July 28, 2023, at 7:00 p.m.
Storytelling is as old as time and it has a special place in Jewish tradition. Through midrash, folktales, and rabbinic legends, the lessons of the Torah have been amplified and made even more accessible to all ages.
This Friday, and on Friday, August 4, Rabbi Sanford Akselrad will share some stories from a collection of original stories by acclaimed author Rabbi Zoe Klein.
Her book, Candle, Feather, Wooden Spoon, invites readers on a magical, mystical journey. With settings both traditional and contemporary,
the stories each highlight an essential aspect of living a meaningful Jewish life.
Each story will give you pause to think or bring a smile to your face. And each will touch upon a timeless Jewish value that has just been retold in a unique way that will surely touch your heart.
After Services, Rabbi Akselrad will lead a discussion about current events in Israel.
During the past few months, Israel has been engaged in a process of judicial reform that has caused great division within the country. With the recent passage by the Knesset of the first part of the bill, Rabbi will discuss what has transpired, if this will this be a threat to Israel’s democracy, and how does this impact the Israel-U.S. relationship. Israel is on all of our hearts. Come listen, learn, and join the conversation as we face a pivotal moment in Israel’s history.
