Congregation Ner Tamid

Nevadans for the Common Good

Nevadans for the Common Good (NCG) is a non-profit, non-partisan, grassroots organizing coalition that works for the betterment of our community. We educate and train citizens to participate in public life. Over forty religious institutions and non-profit organizations work together to build relationships, find common ground on issues, and act in non-partisan ways to improve life for all Nevadans.

What that means: a group of people identify an issue that is impacting our community, determine how to work on it, and proceed accordingly. Researching, meeting with people in the know, talking with politicians, and creating legislative bills are all a part of organizing. Using this method, NCG has made a difference for many people in our community.

Two NCG committees meet at Congregation Ner Tamid monthly. The CNT NCG steering committee participates in all local NCG events including Delegate’s Assemblies, trainings, and civic academies. The committee meets the third Thursday of the month at 5:15 pm in the synagogue Board Room, although at this time, the meetings are held via Zoom.

The second group is the NCG Addiction and Recovery Committee. This group meets the third Tuesday of the month, also via Zoom. This committee recently wrote a letter to Attorney General Aaron Ford regarding Purdue Pharma and the utilization of the settlement money. This committee is also working with local foster care agencies to learn about, and ultimately protect, the rights of children who do not live with their biological parents for a reason related to parental addiction.
