Congregation Ner Tamid is proud to announce The Mason Family will be the recipients of this year’s Justice Michael A. Cherry Tikkun Olam Community Service Award and Roberta Unger will be honored with the L’dor V’dor Award.
CNT’s celebratory Tikkun Olam Champagne Brunch will take place on Sunday,
December 6, 2026, at Congregation Ner Tamid, 55 N. Valle Verde Dr., in Henderson, from 11:00am – 2:00pm.
The Justice Michael A. Cherry Tikkun Olam Community Service Award is given to those dedicated to “Tikkun Olam,” which reflects the highest ideal of the Jewish people, namely to “repair the world.” It demonstrates the same commitment to social justice as the award’s namesake, former Nevada Supreme Court Justice Michael A. Cherry.
Since making Southern Nevada their home in 1965, the Mason family has lived by the values of Tikkun Olam, dedicating over six decades to repairing the world. Within the Jewish community, they have provided vital leadership as synagogue presidents and board members, and as passionate supporters of the JFSA and ADL. Their secular contributions are equally foundational, including establishing the UNLV Pier Research Fellows and championing Type 1 diabetes research through JDF (now Breakthrough T1D). The Masons have further shaped the region through extensive board service for civic, environmental, and educational anchors—including KNPR, the Great Basin National Park Foundation, the Zion National Park Forever Project, the ACLU, the Nevada State Contractors Board, the Nevada Contractors Association, The College of Idaho, and the Clark County Library District.
The L’dor V’dor Award, literally “from generation to generation,” is CNT”s newest award and it recognizes those in the next generation who successfully embody our Jewish culture’s
values, rituals, traditions, and history. For nearly 30 years Roberta Unger has been a mainstay of the Congregation Ner Tamid Family. Roberta began in a volunteer role assisting our Director of Education and has held myriad roles since, currently serving as our Managing Director. Roberta personifies the value of L’dor V’dor through her connection to each member of our congregation, her commitment to CNT, and her family’s deep ties to this community. We are honored to be able to recognize Roberta for all she has done and continues to do for Congregation Ner Tamid.
